Brief Update from Megan, 23 Oct

Internet access at the hospital is not available so Megan is giving me the latest information via the telephone. I asked Dr. Reisfield about the pain Grandma had last night and he explained that introducing the chemical agent in the pleurodesis is intentionally irritating (this is how it is supposed to work) so it is most likely painful. Grandma has been awake but only minimally communicative today. Dad thinks it's the morphine but she was actually this way for the first few days I was there last week, when she had not been administered morphine recently. We are waiting for the thoracic surgeon to visit. We don't know how much of last night's procedure was successful. We will be asking him to explain why there was a problem with the tubes.
