Clarification about the diagnosis, 23 Oct

Some questions have been asked about Grandma's diagnosis so I thought I'd do a quick recap. First, there was some question about the staging of Grandma's cancer. The primary staff (Vu, Seeram, and on that day, Mooradian) told us it was Stage IV. When the oncology consult, Dr. Salimi, came by we were told it was "at least Stage IIIB". These are not mutually exclusive. Salimi knew it had to be at least IIIB because of the cancerous cells in the fluid. He had not yet reviewed all the lab results. Second, it has been asked how aggressive the cancer is, how quickly it is spreading, and whether it is for sure metastatic. The doctors have told us that Grandma's lung cancer is too advanced to cure. As such, they are not doing any further diagnostic testing. Third, why was chemotherapy even discussed? Chemo was only a possibility as a palliative measure. The oncologists decided against that in Grandma's case, saying it would do more harm than good.
